Possibly the best all around light weight rod...

This rod, the Gloomis GLX TSR-862-2 is an extended version of the Gloomis GLX SR-842-2 Light Fast Acting, except its 2" longer which makes it slightly more sensitive and easier to cast. We use both rods for trout, striped bass, and Steelhead to 12 lbs. Though they are only 4-8 lb rated, they have a significant amount of lifting power lower on the rod. I would not use these rods from the bank for steelhead larger than 7 lbs but from a boat wow. Super light and a fun challenge, and people who have fished with me are blow away at how fun it is to land a steelhead these rods. I currently own 30 or so high end rods (Okuma, Lamiglass, Edge, Shimano, Gloomis) up to 11 foot salmon rods and I can easily say the Gloomis GLX SR-842-2 7' 4-125 Lb Light Fast Acting, and the Gloomis GLX TRS-862-2 7'-2" 4-125 Lb Light Fast Acting are my all time favorites. We call them the pea shooters because they are so light. We have even landed Coho salmon on them up to 12 lbs. Most of our Steelhead fishing is on the upper Rogue River in Oregon below the Hatchery where the summers don't get much bigger than 10 lbs. With regard to price....yep expensive. I have 4 of these rods and yea it hurt to buy them. But know this, I just put the fourth in my quiver. The other three I have owned since 2006. Each one has been broken over the years at least three times. The Gloomis no question expediter program is why I spend the extra money. You give Gloomis your CC for $120 and they send you a tube with a new rod and a return slip to send the broken rod back in the same tube. No one else has that support even Gary Loomis's Edge Rods. Lifetime warranty, wether it's defective or you break it yourself on accident with some of the best guide inserts available, it's a great rod.

I have owned and fished multiple G. Loomis rods over the years and have found them to be high end but definitely wouldn’t recommend for the price. There are rods that are just as good for 1/4 of the price like the okuma GSP trout rods. Save your money and buy 4 okuma guide selects and you wont regret your purchase. If you aren’t an okuma guy than shimano, st croix, lamiglass and other brands make great deals as well.
