I could write a small book about the RPX but in a few words, "excellent, truly brilliant!" I've done all sorts of fishing, both salt and fresh for well over 50 years. Love my fly fishing, trout mainly but when I got into euro nymphing couple of years ago, my catch rate with nymphs doubled. It did teach me to appreciate water flow better and changing rigs and weight often due to different current speeds, depths and conditions, it is critical if you wanted more fish caught in varying conditions. It's worth the effort to train yourself to get to know the value of water dynamics as it is technical with nymph fishing correctly. I've float fished for my whole life for the saltwater, 'luderick or blackfish' here in Aussie. Mainly in harbor, off ocean rocks or still water. I took a gamble and imported a Raven 14' IM8 and a bunch of various weight Raven floats. With watching steelhead videos I realized the value of matching the rig to the current flow and applied that to tidal flows in bottle necks and channels as speed of current can vary dramatically by the hour. Wow, after a while I could keep the bait in the strike zone through the whole tide cycle if I wanted by changing floats and weights. My catch rate increased dramatically. With luderick you use small #10 &12 hooks with fine leaders. The fish are powerful & fight really well but I began losing them in the swifter currents as the fish simply worked the hook out as I had to fight them for too long with the deeper bending 14' IM8. I didn't mind, I was getting an increased hook up rate anyway in water never really fished but I splurged and got an RPX - a game changer. It feels great in the hand but its light weight is deceptive. It's got a great backbone and you can really lean into the fish and turn their heads when needed and still protect the fine leader with a small hook purchase. Brutal finesse I call it. I still drop some fish of course but the % in the net has increased noticeably. Also, not to mention you can fish all day with an RPX and it doesn't fatigue anything like my other rods. They truly are a purpose built, quality fishing rod, couldn't be happier. Now to have a crack at some tailrace "speckled torpedos" of trout in that unwadeable swift currents. Love that rod! Well done Raven.

Best rod money can buy, plenty of backbone and can turn heads with ease. Runs 4 pound line like a champ and it will put fish on the bank

First off, the amazing craftsmanship of the custom reel seat allows you to easily change between any centerpin or even spinning reel at your choice. Recoil guides allow the angler to fish longer in colder conditions without worrying about ice build up that affect your drift and its natural presentation. Power of the RPX is unmatched by any float rod on the market. Fishing all over the great lakes from using 20lb main line and 15lb leaders for chinook salmon to elegant set ups using 10lb main line and 6lb leaders for steelhead, the Raven RPX has never let me down. The 11'6'' RPX is perfect for fighting fish in smaller streams and river that have debris and cover. The 13'6'' RPX is perfect for fighting big fish in big water. With the Raven RPX, you do not sacrifice power with added length.

I purchased this rod with the Raven XL Fully Ported 5 1/4 inch reel for center pin float fishing. The rod is very nicely made, but for this price you can acquire a Rain Shadow custom rod. The eye guides on the top ice very easily and because of this twist when casting or reeling in a fish. The eye guides need to be either snake eyes or much stronger to support cold river Steelhead fishing. Fished this rod for 5 days in weather 18-25 degrees and I already see twists in the guides which has me concerned about breaking off. If you acquire this rod - put it in a tube for protecting the eye guides. Don't travel in the tube sock you will still have issues in my opinion. Overall I do like how strong the rod how it handles bringing in fish, but I am concerned how quickly I would have to send this back for repair due to eye guides.
