Let me give everyone some improvements for this great bait to help you out and eliminate your frustrations. First, use wire cutters and cut off the factory treble hook and up size to the next bigger size in a VMC 9651 TR Red treble and a #1 split ring for easy on-off. . Scrape off those flat eyes as they will fall off easily and replace with 3D eyes. Now the fun part. To protect and reinforce the strength of that back plastic V tail, you will need to get some clear epoxy and give the entire bait 2 coats including the 3D eyes as I use BSI 30-minute epoxy. I add a pinch of ultra-fine silver glitter to the first coat and I add a slash of red behind the gill plate and behind the 3D eyes too. . I then wait 24 hours and re-coat with the same epoxy but without the ultra-fine glitter. added. That plastic rear V fin is now tough epoxy coated protected and will not fall off or break under 98% of normal use. I haven't lost a V fin yet and I add a split ring or use a #1 snap on the attachment point as I NEVER tie direct as it kills the down flutter action. these hints should help you folks out greatly. I even airbrush them base white and create my own custom colors. I love this bait because I don't have to deal with a hook sticking out the bait's nose.

They catch more walleye then Jig Rap however poorly made. Almost every 7 lb plus walleye has broken these lures. The plastic tails come over or break, and they use cheap hooks. Why not put quality hooks on a good bait for the price they are asking they should have quality hooks.

How do I fish Moonshine Lures Shiver Minnows in Open Water?

To get walleyes to chase Shiver Minnows, you want optimal left-right darting action and a soft glide to the bottom. Here are two ways to attain this action. The first way is to cast the lure and let it drift close to the bottom, but instead of letting it hit bottom every time, you want to bounce it just above the bottom. Pop up the rod tip and let it drop. Every fifth or so pop, let the lure glide to but not hit the bottom. When you fish Shiver Minnows in this fashion, you keep them clean and in the strike zone.

A second method to get the desired action is to let the walleye lure drop almost to the bottom, give a pronounced sweep upward with your rod, and then immediately drop the rod tip. The bait will swim toward the bottom. Repeat the exaggerated sweep and drop the rod tip.

What type of fishing gear is needed for a Shiver Minnow?

Fishing gear also plays a role in making Moonshine Shiver Minnows dart in rhythmic cadence. The suggestion is to use a six-to-seven-foot rod – ensure it's extremely lightweight so you don't wear yourself out working the rod. The rod also needs a stiff backbone to set hooks firmly at a distance and a little flex at the tip to fight bigger fish. For line, the recommendation is to use one that will not stretch with a three-foot, 10-to-15-pound fluorocarbon leader.
