At a Glance: Fishing

For centuries fishing, also known as angling, has been a widely popular sport all around the world. In prehistoric times, fishing was an essential task for getting food. The methods used to catch fish have not changed much over the centuries. The most common type of fishing, even in 3500 BCE, was with a specific series of fishing gear, such as a rod, line, and bait. The spear, net, and fishing rod all seemed to appear around the same time in Egypt around 3500 BCE. Back then, hooks were a sharpened stone that was coated in some sort of bait. As time went on, the love and desire of fishing continued. As metal crafting became popular, hooks became one of the first tools forged out of metal.

With the introduction of air travel, avid anglers were opened up to entirely different markets to learn to fish for all sorts of different fish species all around the world. The Great Lakes is a region in northeastern North America, which is a major hot spot for ice fishing during the frigid winters, but even in the warmer months, this region is widely popular for freshwater fish. Fish like Salmon, Trout, Perch, Walleye, and the ever-popular Largemouth Bass have attracted millions of fishermen looking to catch trophy fish. Although we work with all anglers, no matter the location, FishUSA is proud to call the Great Lakes our home waters!

Today, fishing remains one of the most popular sports in the world. Whether you’re bait fishing, fly fishing, baitcasting, spincasting, or trolling, all fishermen share the same problem of every angler before them, where to find the fish and how to tempt them. Instead of fishing with wooden fishing rods and stone hooks, today’s fisherman has technology on their side, amping up the game and sending fishermen seeking increasingly more difficult fish. And with that demand, FishUSA is there to back every angler with all their needs from fishing reels, to lures and bait, to kayaks and wading gear. No matter the need, FishUSA is here to help you get back on the water!
