Triggers Brown Trout When Other Presentations Don't

by -

Any river trout fisherman should have these in their arsenal.

Some of the most affective lures in my arsenal!

The 1/8 & 3/16 sizes are incredible once you've figured out how they want to see it. And catch a variety of fish. The colors almost don't matter, but there are some that are more affective than others. Fish USA has the most awesome selection to choose from in floating and sinking. Can't wait till the wind dies down to try these out in the shallow flats .

These cast well and hold up well. I've bounced them off a few rocks and no issues. True trout catchers! Gold flame and hot pink trout are special.

Have had several hooks pull out of the lure and the eye that you snap to resulting in a useless lure. I attempted to contact Yozuri but they will not respond back. This has taken place on 3-5 lb walleyes. This would not be so bad except for the price. They are great lures but need a better anchor job where the hooks and eye are attached to the lure.

Trout Killers

I have used the 2" size for years on both stocked and wild trout from Pennsylvania to Colorado and have yet to find anything that turns the trout on like the Pins Minnow. They flat out work. Tips: 1. Cut off the front split ring and tie directly to the line with a Rapala Knot - Way better action and easier to tune. 2. Be sure to replace the hooks when necessary with the EXACT same size and use a light wire treble - The action is awesome but very delicate.

The only lure I use for BIG trout

I've trout fished small SE MN trout streams for roughly 10 years. I started with spinners/cleos, but was never able to entice larger trout to bite (16"+). My first year using the 2 3/4" version, I caught a 23" brown trout, and several over 18". This lure drives fish crazy when you "dance it". Small jerks while retrieving it really mimics a dead or dying minnow, and big boys come from the depths to investigate. I pair this on my 5 ft Fenwick with a Pflueger president 6925 reel, along with 6 lb mono. On the days where fish act hungry, but never fully commit, I use the 2" version. The smaller presentation can entice more strikes. My go to is the 2 3/4" Brown, Brook, and green/gold models. Buy this lure, work on the "dance", and you will catch big Trout.

Brown trout beatdown

Bought a mess of these on spring sale. Use them on short leads behind planers in the spring, on leadcore in the fall, and long line when needed. Underwater video shows it gets bit, even when it is trolled so slow there is no action, indicative that it might be the appearance that seals the deal. Gold flame and anything green is what gets used.

Perhaps The Best Stickbait for Trout of All Time!

I started using famous floating Finnish Minnows for trout in the 70's and discovered that if you repeatedly jerked the rod tip hard, and non stop on retrieve, the lure jumped and darted all over the place randomly, and this REALLY moved and caught trout! Drove them crazy like nothing else I'd seen before! Later I found that this retrieve was used for years by snook fishermen in Florida and was also written about by David Richey for fishing big Brown Trout in Michigan rivers. Since then I've tried many other brand name stickbaits this way for trout, and NONE have the action quite like the Yozuri Pins Minnow. The way it jumps, with a certain quick, accelerated speed of the dart, triggers strikes like no other stickbait or lure before. Use repeated sharp rod tip jerks, "dance" that thing like mentioned in a previous thread, "WATCH OUT" and be READY! The lure and retrieve works great for largemouths and smallmouths too. I like 2 3/4 and 3 1/2 inch. One of the all time great trout baits!
