Product Details

Scientific Anglers Absolute Fluorocarbon Tapered Leader gives fly anglers a stealthy, abrasion-resistant connection that stays versatile across trout streams, bass lakes, steelhead rivers, and saltwater flats. This 9 ft. tapered fluorocarbon leader uses proprietary copolymer blends to reduce water absorption while maintaining clarity, suppleness, and strong knot performance, which helps anglers present common flies cleanly and fish confidently around rocks, wood, current seams, grass edges, and shallow structure. Size-specific taper and butt diameters match a wide range of fly patterns, making this leader a practical choice for everything from trout nymphs and bass bugs to bonefish flies, permit patterns, and steelhead presentations. For anglers who need one fluorocarbon tapered leader that covers multiple techniques in freshwater and saltwater, this one brings the strength, turnover, and low-visibility profile that matter on the water.

  • 100% fluorocarbon construction for low-visibility presentations
  • Proprietary copolymer blends reduce water absorption and maintain suppleness
  • Taper and butt diameters match common flies across multiple sizes
  • 9 ft. leader for freshwater and saltwater species including bass, bonefish, permit, steelhead, and trout

I've been using the 2X and 1X versions for steelhead in smaller tributaries with split-shot sinkers and bead head flies. Does the job. The smaller ends are strong and supple enough to make streamers and nymphs move in the water. My blood knots hold when I tie smaller S/A fluoro tippet onto them, too. They've been worth their weight.
