This is an excellent rod for the price. Purchased specifically to fish alpine lakes where casting distance can sometimes mean everything. Rod loads really well and literally launches out line. Have fished in both calm conditions and in moderate wind. In either case the rod performed well. Due to it's length (9' 6"), I apply more bend in the rod to both set the hook and play the fish than my shorter fly rods. Note that I also own a Sage Z-Axis 9' 6" 4wt (for 4 years) that cost approximately 4 times the Vice. I can tell you the Vice is at least 95% as accurate and casts about the distance. If you are not an advanced fly rod caster, you probably won't notice the difference in the two. I'm very pleased so far with my Vice rod. Have fished it about 10 times and have probably landed close to 80 fish with it. Fish species include trout, largemouth bass and pan fish. Largest being 2+lb.s. Have no problems casting poppers or streamers. Rod is really good about casting long leaders.
