X-Raps for nearshore mackerel
by Steve -
The X-Rap lures have become my standard fare for kayak trolling nearshore for Spanish and King Mackerel here in Florida. I use them in varying sizes depending on the size of baitfish, and I almost always use the "Ghost" pattern and a wire leader to avoid losing these great lures to sharp teeth!
trout fishing XR08
by Phil -
I bought this lure XR-08 in the brown trout color specifically to target large trout in the dams in NSW Australia. The reason for this was at times these large trout chased small gudgen fish about the size of the lure and the gudgen have a brown top and white belly. The action of the lure and depth it runs when slowly retrieved from the shore along the drop off and weed beds was ideal. The lure on it's first use caught a 600mm brown trout and has performed well since on these large fish.

Love it especially for colder water. The smaller size gets a lot of strikes that the larger XR10 misses when the fish are less active. Colors gold, silver, perch, yellow perch, glass ghost, and clown all work well.

I've caught smallmouth bass, rock bass, and walleye on these. Just an extremely versatile lure. I use it on relatively shallow rivers. The color scheme is great! Can be cranked slow, or twitched.

These are the gold standard of jerk-baits.

These jerk-baits will catch everything! Usually we use them for small mouth in the two medium sizes they are great searching baits. often small mouth will fallow them to the boat which can be very beneficial in pre-fishing for tournaments. The large size is the best thing I have ever thrown for pike in clear water. They do not preform as well with a leader, therefore pike will sometimes bite them off which can be pricey, but that is the cost of having these great jerk baits.
When Everything else works, this doesn't.
I am a fan of Rapala original, husky, shad, and DT. I own a lot of Rapala; therefore when these came out I got two (size 8/clown, 10/perch) and my girlfriend got one (8/crawdad). We fish in east TN rivers and lakes and recently took a trip into Canada to a sorta remote lake in Quebec. While in Canada almost everything else in my tackle box worked (it was a low pressured lake), although we had no success with the x-rap. The water being clear, we saw fish look at the lure and do nothing. They may have moved their head, but no action. While there, we also went to a known pike lake and again, nothing. The rivers in TN are stained/muddy and warmer, so a completely different scenario and still no luck for the past year. We are trading these ones in at a local shop.
Super durable 3rd generation fish catcher - Must have!
by IanLJones -
Great lure. The durability of this bait is incredible. It's wobbling action is incredible. The different finishes are beautifully done and I suspect provoke strikes by finicky fish. Pike chomp on it and apart from a few surface scratches on the plastic shell it survives bright and ready to go back in the water. The Gold, Purple Gold, Scoop and Silver finishes are excellent colours for northern lakes. My only reservation is the feather tail hook - what's this for? Seems like an unnecessary gimmick. I've been replacing this with an Owner single replacement hook.

I do a lot of spring and fall wading in small rivers and lakes, the Rapala X-Rap has been a great producer. The compact design makes it easy to make long, accurate casts even in windy conditions. Works well as both jerkbait or with a steady retrieve.
