Two more winner Rapalas - shallow and deeper running Fish Getters
by IanLJones -
These are kind of an improved Shad Rap Shallow, updated to the tough polycarbonate shell construction with its realistic eye, gill plate and scale detail and a lot more flash, and with similar great wobbling action. The hard shell construction seems to be very durable and tooth (pike) resistant. They are dense enough to allow long casts. I've had great success trolling and casting these - I suspect the shallow models will catch anything predatory in less than 10' of water, the deeper model 10-20'. Brown Trout seem to love the 'Halloween' coloured Shadow Rap Shad. I loaned a 'Bone' finished lure to an acquaintance and they promptly caught a 48" long pike on it in a tributary of Great Slave Lake, NWT.

Come On Spring. Nice colors and style.

Typical Rapala product. Solid. Priced well. I did have one split down the back on me, but otherwise no issues.
Shallow Shadow Rap
I have been using the shadow rap for the last two years wading for spring and fall walleyes with great success (pickerel and smallies seem to like it too). This lure's design and weight allows it to be cast easily into the wind and has a very nice swimming action. The slow rise on a pause triggers a lot of strikes.
They are also durable. I have several with chewed up lips from submerged rocks and bodies with lots of teeth marks, but the coloring and action are unaffected.
The hooks are good for 2-3 sharpenings, but then the hooks need to be replaced...which is common.
Excellent shad style jerkbait
by Laker - Hamburg, NY
Works great so far, especially for pre-spawn smallies. Suspending baits (husky jerk, X-Rap) best for early pre-spawn, cold water, sluggish fish. These shine when fish are starting to come shallow and more active. Purpledescent excellent color.
My favorite shallow water Jerkbait!
by Marty M.
I nearly ALWAYS have a jerkbait tied on year-round. They are one of my confidence baits for nearly any species, and the Shadow Rap Shad has become my favorite shallow water jerkbait! It can be used in anything deeper than a foot of water making it perfect for salt water flats or working over shallow rocks or grass. Had great erratic action, lots of flash, and triggers strikes! Only draw back is hooks and split rings could be stronger.
