Nice Product

The smaller #1's worked well for the narrower streams and creeks that I trout fish. The bright fire minnow in particular worked well.

When arrived, everyone was drift fishing with jigs and roe bags but no one was getting any bites. So I tied on a 2" Countdown in the Olive Green Muddler pattern and landed a 24" Steelie on my 2nd cast. I almost always replace both treble hooks with 2 VMC inline hooks or with a single Gamakatsu Siwash hook at the tail of the lure. I get better hook sets, the trout are less likely to throw the hook and single hooks are less stressful and damaging to the fish.

In 1974 I gave up on the original floating Rapala for the Countdown as my main lure - the latter casts better, has better wiggling (not so much rolling) action and once you've figured out the sink rate you can cast and work it to fish depths normally requiring a deep diving lure. There is a learning curve here - some practice is required to master your control skills. It does sink steadily so you can't just cast and forget, you have to maintain 'situational awareness'. Once it's at the right fishing depth, a brief pause in retrieve followed by a couple of sharp jerks on the rod tip provoke smashing strikes by Walleye, Pike and Smallmouth Bass. It can also be fished almost jig like in 20-25' of water by letting it settle down and then doing the pause and twitch routine. I have found it to be excellent trolled for Lake and Brook Trout in Ontario lakes. My favourite colours are gold foil for Walleye et c. and silver foil for trout and Arctic Char. CD7 and CD9 are my preferred sizes.
