I ordered this reel specifically for a trip I was taking for steelhead and I was sent a reel that had been apparently opened, fished, and returned. The reel showed signs of usage scratches and marks on the foot where it had been mounted to a rod and it sounds like there may be a bit of grit or sand in it when spinning. I'm not sure why I was sent a used reel but when I reached out with photos and asked if a quick exchange would be possible I was told I can only return it and wouldn't get one back in time. I also offered to keep the reel "as is" for a partial refund so that I at least have something and don't have to go out of my way hunting down a reel. This puts me out of a reel. Disappointing interaction and experience.

Ive had it for a week now and fought and caught several salmon with it. It seems to be good quality and works excellently. The only downside I've noticed is it doesn't like being in sandy water. Easy fix for this is to not put it in the water. It comes with a nice neoprene pouch to protect it during transport too.

I started centerpin fishing 3 years ago with a cheap China special reel that i picked up on ebay for about 60 dollars. The reel worked well for about 1 season while learning to centerpin until it started rusting and would no longer free spool. I purchased this reel 2 seasons ago for steelhead, and river smallmouth bass fishing. Spooled with 20lb backer line and blood run hi-vis yellow floating monofilament, this reel is a dream to use. The start up inertia is incredibly low, the reel with turn with one BB lead split shot on the end of the line. After 2 seasons of use, and numerous catches on this reel, it hasn't failed me once.

Very smooth most of the time, but the open face design easily trap dirt/sand between the frame and drum. I would try the Raven after I saved enough money. It gets stiff and won't spin freely from time to time, but loosen up the center screw helped a bit. I would prefer the clicker be stiffer to hold the line stronger for traveling. Overall very good product but I would spent a little more for the Raven. However, I never use the Raven before, so I can't really say if the Raven is really better.
