Excellent Value in a Center Pin Reel

by -

I did a lot of center pin research before deciding on the Sheffield. After many phone calls, and checking various Forums, I concluded the Okuma was the best value for the money. I have not been disappointed. It has good bearings and works well for Wallis casting. The quality is far better than the price would indicate. Start up is good and it is smooth with a solid action when casting or reeling. If you would like to get into center pinning at a reasonable price, try a Sheffield. It has been a pleasure for me to own and use.

nice reel

It is very well made and totally reliable. Absolutely fabulous reel. This is a great reel for any beginner, novice or expert and comes highly recommended. it puts itself in the middle of pack of not being too heavy nor on the lighter side of the fence. In terms of performance, what can I say, it's a work horse.

outstanding reel for a hell of a price!

I use my reel for small inland trout and monster salmon and seelhead and have never had a problem never!!I use it in derbies and it never lets me down. Verry smooth and fast line recovery all in all OUTSTANDING !!! I will own several more!

Great Pin!

Usually center pin reels of this quality run for [$] more than what the Sheffield cost.

Excellent Value

Priced as an entry-level reel, the Okuma Sheffield performs well beyond it's price point. My third day out with this reel saw it handle a 15+lb steelhead without problems. It's been out in 18degF temps, mist & rain, sun, snow and performed flawlessly. Nearly effortless startup, solid clicker for transport, and a huge appetite for backing and mainline. A++ reel!

Great Reel for Steelhead Fishing.

Sheffield is a good buy

Good real for the money. Center Pins are an expensive investment. The Sheffield offers a reliable reel for a fraction of the cost. I purchased it as my first Pin and I am very satisfied. I have landed everything from 10" stocked trout to 30lb salmon on it. It is holding up well against the abuse I put it through.

Upgrade from Aventa

by -

My first centerpin was an Okuma Aventa, which I used heavily for the last 4-5 years. My one complaint was that the bearings got a little stiff below ~25 degrees. This reel seems to spin more freely to begin with and I've used it twice now below 20 degress with no issues. Seems like a decent product for the price (even if these reels are all too expensive).

a must have!!!

good for the money, looks great, excellent performance and a must have!an investment you won't regret and you will thank me!

Awesome Quality For the Price

by

For the price it doesn't get much better. My first Pin Reel and, other that buying new toys, will probably be a favorite for many years. Smooth easy startup and solidly built. Great for a beginner or long timer.

Great reel

My first center pin reel and I couldn't be happier. The reel is very well made, with a super smooth bearing that lets it spool out line effortlesly. Great reel for the money.

Great for salmon and steelhead on any west coast river

cant go wrong for the price

by

if you are just learning how to fish a pin or you just want a great centerpin reel at a great price this is the one to buy. This reel has an effortless start up an is easy to maintain. the only downfall to this reel is that the clicker is very weak and will not keep a tight line while you have your hook in the keeper or in a guide while idle. The best thing you can do to resolve this is to keep the reel case on it while not in use, this will keep tension on the line

great reel! a must have!

by

i highly recommend this reel, good for the money, looks great, and best performance.

Awesome reel..A lot of fun to use.

For the money the quality and reliability of this reel is hard to beat I'm glad I didn't have to spend big bucks for the same quality

Tremendous bargain and great performer

by

Like other folks who have posted about this reel a lot of research went into the purchase of this reel before I bought it. I have not been disappointed at all! I now own multiple float fishing reels (some costing 3x - 4x more) and use the Sheffield as much (if not more) than the other reels. It is excellent and is a great reel for float fishers of any level proficiency.

OK for the money, but can be better

by

Very smooth most of the time, but the open face design easily trap dirt/sand between the frame and drum. I would try the Raven after I saved enough money. It gets stiff and won't spin freely from time to time, but loosen up the center screw helped a bit. I would prefer the clicker be stiffer to hold the line stronger for traveling. Overall very good product but I would spent a little more for the Raven. However, I never use the Raven before, so I can't really say if the Raven is really better.

Solid Reel

by

I started centerpin fishing 3 years ago with a cheap China special reel that i picked up on ebay for about 60 dollars. The reel worked well for about 1 season while learning to centerpin until it started rusting and would no longer free spool. I purchased this reel 2 seasons ago for steelhead, and river smallmouth bass fishing. Spooled with 20lb backer line and blood run hi-vis yellow floating monofilament, this reel is a dream to use. The start up inertia is incredibly low, the reel with turn with one BB lead split shot on the end of the line. After 2 seasons of use, and numerous catches on this reel, it hasn't failed me once.

10/10

This was my first centerpin reel. Of course the short learning curve took a little but but after a trip I was confident with it. Been using it now for a month and have been nothing but impressed. Extremely smooth and a pleasure to use. Would highly recommend this reel
