The Okuma SST New Generation Spinning Rod series includes fishing rods with either carbon grips or cork grips and are developed to be technique and species-specific tools. SST carbon grip spinning rods feature 3K woven carbon fore and rear grips built upon sensitive 24/30-ton low resin carbon blanks. The SST cork grip rods use premium fore and rear grips on all models and integrate a compressed cork butt cap with a non-skid surface. A custom IM-8 graphite pipe reel seat is placed on most cork grip spinning rods. Additionally, the cork grip spinning rods collection includes three and four-piece travel rods! The entire New Generation Spinning Rod family displays selections with many actions and powers. Further, all include stainless steel guide frames with zirconium inserts (adds durability and reduces line friction when using braided lines), a stainless steel hook keeper, and are backed by Okuma's one-year warranty.     The blank, cork, and reel seat all seem great. I have not fished it yet. However, the first eyelet on the bottom half of the rod is clearly off alignment from the direction of the reel seat by a good10-20 degrees. I'm unsure if I should return it or fish with it since I took the plastic and tags off. I didn't realize the alignment was off until I finally bought a reel and rigged the rod and noticed how bad the eyelet was off centered.

    I have 6 of these rods now, I buy the multi piece travel models. Used them offshore and inshore and have not had any issues. Wish they had more options for the travel models. I have used the 863MH rod to cast into the surf with 3oz. lures with no issues, even though they are only rated to 1.5oz., the rod does not flinch either casting or landing hard fighting fish.

The rod handles well I use it for river fishing smallmouth and pike. Topwater hook sets 50 plus yards out are a breeze and solid. Great rod hoping they guided hold up.
