My Dead Eyes

by

I have been using the 8'6" telescoping version for around 9-10 years for pulling boards for striped bass on fresh water lakes. Best was a 32 lb. striper and a 45 lb. blue catfish (by-catch while trolling live bait). I have never broken a rod and I'm rough on them.

Only complaints I have are that they changed the color of the outer paint or finish over the years and that finish quality. They used to be green and the last ones I bought were more brown or gold. The finish also is flaking/peeling off on the rods, but of course it doesn't affect their performance.

Still, I love these rods and own 20 of them, but regularly use 14. The length gives me the leverage I need and the medium action is firm enough to set the hook with a proper drag setting, but soft enough to not rip the hook out on a strike.

I'd give these rods a 5 if the finish wasn't peeling, but overall, I'm very satisfied. The price point, even though it's gone up about 50% over the years, is still below other similar rods.

Awesome economical rod

Great rod for pulling inline and big boards. The 7'6" telescopic rod has great action and control for handling big fish.

Okuma in the midwest

by

I own six rods ranging from 7'6 to 8'6 paired with okuma convector 20d's. I pull cranks and bottom bouncers with church tx-22's. The rods have plenty of give letting eye's eat a crawler harness, and enough back bone to bury the hooks. They have no problems holding the tx-22's in 2ft white caps.

I opted with Deadeye rods over other rods due to their larger supported eye's. I am rather rough on equipment and these rods fit the bill, and the price was a nice plus. Either way they help put fish in the livewell!
