Outstanding Quality And Price

I eagerly awaited the release of the Caymus reels when they were announced by Okuma. They were well worth the wait. These reels look great. With the porting in the spool, the skeletonized rotor arms, and aluminum handle with EVA grip, these reels are on par with reels costing far more than $50. And yes, in case anyone was wondering, the red on the Caymus matches the Ugly Stik GX2 rods perfectly. Both the C-30 and C-40 I ordered were extremely smooth right out of the box. No wobble at all while reeling. Line lays evenly on the spool during the retrieve, and comes off easily when casting. True instant anti-reverse with no backwards play when setting the hook. The bail is sturdy, easy to open and close, and has a nice positive click in either direction. The drag is good with easy adjustment, a loud audible click, and smooth even pressure with a big fish working it. The EVA grip is very comfortable, and a welcome change from the typical grips found on reels in similar price range. The only downside is the line capacity. Online it's listed as 160 yards of 8lb line on the C-30. When the reel arrived the capacity listed on the reel itself was only 145 yards of 8lb line. When I spooled up with 8lb Suffix Siege, I was only able to get approximately 130 yards on. The same applies with the C-40. Online capacity is listed as 170 yards of 12lb line. The reel itself lists it as 160 yards, and I got around 150 yards of 12lb Suffix on. Not Fish USA's fault for the different numbers given, they just listed what Okuma gave them. They are still great reels with quality that far exceeds their price, and I am beyond pleased with them. If you need a reel packed with high quality features, and an affordable price, get a Caymus. You won't be disappointed.

Light reel, smooth cranking, spooled with 225 ft of 15lb braid. Pretty quiet, fairly tight operation' Old school handle. For a 55 it is about the size of a 40. 13lb drag audible click adjustment. paired with Ugly Stik GX2, 9ft rod for surf perch fishing. If you like light weight for hunting the surf this is a good reel for the job. Just remember to clean it when your DONE!
