Islander Steelheader IS Centerpin Float Reel

13 Reviews
Item No.: F10407

Islander Steelheader IS Centerpin Float Reels are some of the best centerpin float reels on the market. Super smooth is the only way to describe these reels. Just grab the handle and spin the spool. The spool spins effortlessly, which is the result of precision CNC machining, bearings and balance. The refined design, with only twenty five parts and perfect machining, make up these reels. A simple clicker drag is only meant to help prevent line over run, other than that, the highly polished palming rim will supply all the drag you will ever need. The clicker drag can be engaged and disengaged using a frame side button.

Like all Islanders, Steelheader reels are built to take abuse. A thick aluminum frame and spool with a large stainless steel spindle give the Steelheader a very solid reputation. While taking on a 35-pound chinook is not its intended use, you can. Also, there is no need to convert from the left-handed to right-handed retrieve because of its ambidextrous design.

  • Anodized aerospace-grade aluminum, Delrin and stainless steel construction
  • Free-Spool Mode
  • Black Delrin handles
  • Two-year manufacturer's warranty

Great Center Pin

by VOJE -

After much research and comparison, I decided to go head with IS. The quality and price makes this the best all around reel. Very smooth and excellent start. I purchased a clear/silver because I think it will wear the best. It is a nice fit for my 13' Loomis GLX. Can't go wrong with this baby!

Great Reel

Can't sya enough of the IS. You get what you pay for. Is this a pricey reel..? yes. Is this the most expensive reel out there..? no. This reel is very durable and my go to in bad weather. Only knock is it's stock ABEC 3 bearings which is easy to upgrade.

Excellent reel

by The Dude

This is a really nice reel. Unless you buy a completely handmade centrepin, you will be hard pressed to find a better reel on the market. The startup on this reel is excellent. As far as the last review I think that guy needs to learn how to cast or get some more practice. Every centrepin is going to tangle your line or wrap it around the foot of the reel if you don't know how to cast correctly. Learn how to cast the correct way, straight off the bat, and you will have less problems down the line.

The Islander Steelheader reel is very well built and the free spool is excellent. If you're thinking seriously about float fishing, then this reel is definitely worth the investment.

No Regrets !

by Steve ‘n Tully

I love it! It feels like I was born with. The folks at Islander were a tremendous help choosing this one (the one I wanted😏). I’ve dreamt of going to BC or NW US, but in the meantime, Lake Michigan and Wolf, Wisconsin R. will suffice.
