I discovered the BG while fishing the Gulf coast in 2018. Years after switching to Shimano this reel has brought me back to Daiwa. This is a no frills workhorse and in my opinion the best value spinning reel on the market.

Needed something to able to toss around 2-4oz lures chasing Musky/Northerns. Started looking at reviews and what some of the Saltwater folks recommended for a reasonable price, this one popped up consistently. I don't primary chase these species, but needed something when I wanted to go after some big fresh water game and for the yearly Canada trip. Last year a whole bunch of both game over 40" and what a blast. This reel (a 4k) can hold enough line of 80# braid and toss the big lures. Both drag and retrieve are very smooth for this price range. Other reviews have spoken of the durability and cranking power of this reel. Paired it with St Croix Musky rod and replaces the reel that got destroyed last summer on the third day of a Canada trip. Very tempted to get some smaller sizes for some other setups when the older reels can no longer be maintained. Should be on your list to consider, although a little heavier than similar reels on the market.

I live in KS and fish all over. I discovered this reel in a FL fishing shop and was amazed at how smooth and balanced it felt in my hands. The shop had dozens of different models to compare this reel against and it felt as smooth as the reels that cost 5 times as much. I bought 2 of the 2500 models and used them the rest of the summer walleye fishing. Since then I have bought 2 of the 1500 models for crappie fishing. They have been great reels and I really like that I can use them anywhere I fish, fresh and salt water. I have recommended this reel to my friends.

I have a 3000. And a garage full of the old BG-10's and 13's, which for a long time were the best bang for a buck that I could find. The addition of infinite anti-reverse was a long time coming but now that it's in these reels I'm more than happy to go back to them. They have substance, so if you're looking to cut back on weight this isn't the place to do it...but that's what I like about them. Solid. Rated 4 stars for now...too soon for a 5....after a season of use will upgrade if the reel performs as well then as it does now. I'm very happy with it.

I felt like a reel this good deserved some feedback. First off this reel is the best spinning reel for the money hands down it's not even close in fact it's better than most $200 reels. It's smooth as silk and may be even smoother than my Ci4+ this is no joke. I also have the Procyon EX which is also a great reel but it's $40-$50 more and the BG is every bit as smooth if not more so even without the Magseal possibly due to the oversized gearing. This reel is also built like a tank it laughs at abuse where other high end reels would cringe. For example I fished this reel on piers made of extremely harsh cement which will chip paint/finish off reels in a heartbeat but the BG received minimal wear probably due to the Hard Bodzy body & side cover. Wondering about how it handled fish? I used this reel for king salmon & steelhead (the ultimate test) on Lake Ontario. The drag was great and handled the extremely hard fighting fish with no issue. This reel has converted me over to Daiwa reels.
