Dial in precise release tension for everything from light-biting trout and kokanee to aggressive salmon and walleye with the Chamberlain Downrigger Release from Northern Strike. Independent vertical and horizontal adjustments let anglers fine-tune release settings to match lure size, trolling speed, and target species, while the magnetic horizontal adjustment delivers a smooth, consistent release. I bought 2 of these because of the release mechanism impressed me. I like the idea of getting a good bend on the poles and not tripping the release trying to accomplish that. I couldn't get these releases to stay on the braided line I had. They kept sliding the the line. So I bought cable and respooled the downrigger with it. Never really trusted the braid anyway but it was on it when i bought the boat. Now the release won't clamp onto the cable and lock. I emailed the company to ask if I was doing something wrong but never received a response. So I guess I will go back to blacks releases because these are no good to me at all the way they are.

I've used every downrigger release made. These and Black's are hard to beat. The advantage to this release is it has two tension settings for fine tuning if you're using these for walleye or any light biting fish.

My brother convinced me to try these out. I had just recently bought my friends old manual cannons, because he upgraded to electric cannons. My wife and I went kokanee fishing and used the downriggers and releases for the first time. There are instructions on the back of the package for the releases. Very simple, I used the "100 ft" rule. I wanted to fish 25ft down, so Iet out 75 feet of line to start and then connected to the downriggers and lowered it 25 feet. We used sling blades and brad's kokanee cut plugs with stinky white corn. The releases popped every time just like they are supposed to. We had a good day on the water.
