The Chamberlain downrigger release is - hands down - the best release there is, and I've used all the other brands. I fish kokanee and kings. They can be adjusted to hold a lot of vertical down pressure to load the rod, and at the same time use as much or as little release pressure as you like. Never had a false release with these.

These are without a doubt the best releases I have ever used I would recommend them to anyone who fishes with downriggers buy them and try them you won’t be sorry

I have found this release to work perfectly when trolling light - flies, small spoons, crank baits…. However, it can be difficult to adjust when trolling heavy lake rigs. If you hang up and it goes to the bottom of the lake, it’s almost as much $$$$ as the cannon ball.
