Switched to these the other year for steelhead and never quit when trout season opened. I was told the dull black color was necessary for steelhead. Love the pinch open, cross cut dispenser top that self-seals. Lot easier than fumbling with plastic bags and zip top seals. Seem denser than the usual run of the mill shot. They can be a dickens to get pinched on your line which seems to want to slip out of the groove as you're reaching for your pliers. And, they're not removable without cutting off hook or lure. I've started carrying all four sizes in the two tubes. One size on each end. More especially, the tubes are refillable with reasonably priced bags.

Split shot is smaller that I anticipated and the slits for your line are very small. I would recommend the Thill or Water Gremlin and not the Blackbird.
