When performance demands are at their highest, the Okuma Makaira Special Edition Lever Drag Conventional Reel delivers the refined edge that serious offshore anglers rely on. This upgraded SE model enhances the legendary Makaira platform with gun smoke and black Type-II anodizing, a custom yellowfin tuna engraving on the sideplate, and precision machining to increase spool clearance for smoother, more efficient performance. The open spool bearings treated with TSI-301 oil improve freespool by up to 2.5 times, while all non-spool bearings come fully grease-packed for maximum longevity in saltwater environments. Built with a 6061-T6 machined aluminum frame, forged sideplates, and a cold-forged spool, the reel houses a helical-cut 17-4 stainless steel gear system with a two-speed transmission. The Carbonite Dual Force drag system, paired with Cal’s drag grease and a custom thrust bearing, delivers unwavering drag pressure without side load at high settings. Models MK-10 through MK-30 also include upgraded handle arms and knobs from larger Makaira reels, and MK-20 and MK-30 models feature a lower low-gear ratio of 1.3:1 for increased torque. Key details like the patented T-Bar handle, ratcheting drag cam, machined thumb rest, and double-dog anti-reverse system complete a package built to perform and last under relentless pressure. Every cut, finish, and component in the Makaira SE is tuned for purpose—this is a reel made for anglers who never settle for standard.
