When the only acceptable outcome is bringing big game to the boat, the Okuma Makaira Gold Lever Drag Conventional Reel delivers the strength, control, and reliability needed to make it happen. Its rigid 6061-T6 machined aluminum frame and forged sideplates deliver unmatched structural integrity, while helical-cut 17-4 grade stainless steel gears ensure smooth meshing and maximum torque under heavy loads. Each model features a two-speed gearing system housed in a gold anodized aluminum shifter, along with a cold-forged, Type-II anodized spool compatible with both braid and mono thanks to Okuma’s patented spool pin system. The Carbonite Dual Force drag system—enhanced with Cal’s drag grease and a custom thrust bearing—maintains smooth, consistent pressure without side load during extended runs. Internally, ABEC-5 Sapporo stainless steel ball bearings (four in most models, six in the MK-80WII) keep everything turning smoothly, supported by a double-dog silent anti-reverse and a stainless steel ratcheting clicker. Ergonomic upgrades like the machined thumb rest, ratcheting drag lever, and patented T-Bar handle with graphite insert enhance comfort and control when targeting tuna, marlin, or giant trevally. From its corrosion-resistant coating and water-draining port design to the etched marlin logo on the sideplate, every detail on the Makaira Gold reflects its commitment to reliability in harsh saltwater environments. This reel isn’t just built to perform—it’s built to last through the toughest fights season after season.
