Improving upon the original Tekota line, the Tekota A features Coreprotect water resistance to increase corrosion resistance, as well as a loud clicker, easy to replace anti-fogging lens, and new ergonomic S-Compact body design. The Tekota A is excellent for use with all trolling techniques including downriggers, divers, planer boards, lead core, and wirelines. The original Tekota is legendary for its durability and strength, and the vast improvements in the redesign will be sure to impress any Great Lakes angler or saltwater enthusiast.

  • S-Compact ergonomic body design
  • COREPROTECT
    • The concept of COREPROTECT is simple... to provide water resistance without creating a heavy rotation feeling. There are three key areas of the reel that require protection; the roller clutch, the body and the line roller.
  • HAGANE Body
    • The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.
  • S A-RB
    • These bearings have been through the same process as Shimano's A-RB bearings, but feature shields on both sides of the bearings that reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting the bearing's rotation.

Great Reel (from prior model)
Pros: Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling
Best Uses: Trolling
Comments: I have 6 of the 500 models that I use to troll for walleye. I love how smooth they reel, the drag and how the line counters just work. I fished in SE Alaska last summer with an outfitter and he had a dozen of these reels on his boat fishing for salmon and halibut. We talked about how great they were and he said that he'd tried a bunch of different reels over the years and the Tekota's were the only ones that could stand up to the 250 days on the water a year that he put them through.

Great Reel Overall (from prior model)
Pros: Smooooth drag, great quality, loud clicker.
Cons: Line counter not accurate with braid. The 300 does not have power handle.
Best Uses: Trolling, vertical jigging.
Comments: Have been using these for the past three years and they still perform as well as the first day out. I see the only drawback is the line counter isn't as accurate when using braid because of the diameter difference. After awhile you just adjust by the seeing the lure depth on the sonar as compared to the number on the line counter and formulate your actual depth with the line counter depth. Other than that it is engineered well.

Perfect (from prior model)
Comments: Holds plenty of line. Counter is accurate. Light yet sturdy. Very smooth. Built well.

Excelent! (from prior model)
Comments: Don't get carried away with a larger model, use this one. When will you ever need 300 yards of line! Also used for dragging worms or bottom bouncing. Knowing exactly how much line to put out for what the fish want that day, is great knowledge. Nice for trolling behind a kicker or bow mounted trolling motor.

Most dependable linecounter made (from prior model)
Pros: Smooth Reeling, Durable, Reliable, Smooth Drag System
Cons: Cost
Best Uses: Trolling
Comments: Though this is an expensive reel it is well worth the cost. I have used three other brands of line counter reels and all fell apart within a year or two, esp fishing for Salmon and trout. These take a licking and keep on ticking.
