All I can say is I am very impressed with this reel. I have had a couple of custom reels made, & this little matrix can roll with the best of them. Thumbs up raven.

My son handed this reel to me because he wanted another fancier model. I have the simple grey colored version, spooled with 10 lb Raven main Line only. I use it from Oct to April regardless of weather (well below 0 usually) for salmon and steelhead fishing in Ontario. I have absolutely no complaints to make, and find it a real pleasure to fish with. Of course I had to learn how to use it properly, but I found the learning curve to be quick, intuitive and easy without any help needed or stuff to read. It is quite technical, akin to proper fly fishing in difficulty (IMHO). In brief: great looks, impeccable finish and craftsmanship, irreproachable functioning in any weather, easy to clean and maintain, more than ample capacity ... etc. The only issue we had is that the central screw lightly tightened (to ensure free spinning) fell off in the water and was lost. We had to get a new one. If we tighten it enough to avoid this kind of problem, it will not spin freely. So while I fish I have to check all the time to make sure it is not coming off which is a bit annoying. My son does not feel the "better" model is so much better, but the money is gone, for these things are, methinks, a bit overpriced given their simplicity. Durability: seems very solid, no plastic or otherwise weak parts Smoothness: for sure, even without lubrication, if the central screw is not tight. Easy casting: I still have some practice to do. Reliable: so far absolutely Line tangling: Line will often slip out from the side, but it's not very annoying.

I really do not have the experience that I need to rate this reel. Heck it is the first CP I have ever owned so take this short review with that in mind. The reel seems well made and turns freely. Never using another CP before I think that the start up may be a little slow but I cannot judge that for sure. I say that because when i give it a little boost when starting the cast it seemed to cast better.if i got to happy i would get a heck of a professional overrun. I used it for about 4 hours a day for five days and have no complaints at this time.
