Church Tackle Stern Planers are an all new type of professional grade planer. These planers can be staggered to allow for more lines to be run off the back of the boat. Now you can set the lure down to the desired depth and maintain the depth at any distance you choose behind the boat. You don't have to retrieve or reposition Stern Planers when retrieving your side planers, which gives you added fishing time.

Stern Planers are great for trolling in congested areas and for more effective contour trolling along drop offs, contour lines, reef edges and weed lines in rivers, lakes or the ocean. Take advantage of the prop wash, which moves disoriented bait-fish, sediment and bugs around that attract fish. Although their primary use is as a stern planer, they can also run off of outriggers or be used as buoy markers.

In addition, Stern Planers may be used to take the memory out of mono line that has been spooled a long time on a reel. It attaches to the line with a clip on the nose and a quick snap swivel in back; providing speedy and simple attachment or removal. Stern Planers are not just for walleye; they are effective for all species including pike, musky, salmon, trout and panfish. Stern Planers have so little drag, that you can still see the action of the lure at the rod tip while anchored fishing the river current.

I run it down the middle and behind the leads of my planer boards. When a fish hits an outside board, simply let out more line on the Stern Planer rod so it is well behind the board with the fish. Use braided line (30 lb. Power Pro) so there is no stretch and I use a 9 foot medium light action downrigger rod set high to keep as much line out of the water as possible. No pull at all when retrieving, which makes resetting the Planer back to its original position simple. You don't feel the drag of the Planer when fighting a fish, but the design keeps the tension there for the fish even if the Planer is well behind the boat. Also, a great tail gunner rig using a Torpedo or snap weight when the fish drop down.

These work great for walleye especially when trolling early season in under 10 fow. I am often concerned that my louder motor will scare fish away. However I can fish further from the boat with these and have noticed that I do catch more fish when using these. I also enjoy trolling for trout with these. I have caught 12" to 23" browns and rainbows with these and they work great.

Have used these a few times now. Extremely easy to use. They track true and allow me to spread my lines better for spooky fish.
