St Croix Avid Delivers (from prior model)
Pros: Lightweight, Balanced, Sensitive, strong backbone
Best Uses: River Fishing, Center pin fishing larger rivers, steelhead
Comments: Having this rod for a few months now I decided I would give it an honest review. For the price it is exactly what I expected. No more, no less. The rod is light and balanced and feels like a premium st croix rod. When fighting fish you can feel every move and you can turn fish in the right situations. It holds up really well and let's the backbone fight the fish not the rod tip. This is the best rod I have used for steelhead fishing and if you have the money this rod is absolutely worth taking a good look at.

St. Croix Avid 13' Float rod and Fish USA   (from prior model)
Pros: Delivery, Customer service, product quality
Cons:
Best Uses:
Comments: Thank you FishUSA for simply great service. Easy and fast. I had my rod in litterally a day and a half. Amazing. I currently own an older St. Croix Avid 13' float rod. I was skeptical buying a new one but the new one is great! Noticably more balanced and far more comfortable to carry around for hours on the river! You would never believe you are holding a 13' rod. Thank you for the great product and the great customer service. Mike, Steelhead Alley Ohio.

St Croix equals Quality   (from prior model)
Pros: Good Tip Action
Best Uses: River Fishing
Comments: I purchased the 11 ft. light with sliding rings. I am just re-getting used to the sliding rings and the tape has been applied to make them non-sliding. I am using 8# test on a spinning reel to float fish for Bronzeheads , warm- water -admit it- carp. Tangle filled shallow river pools are a challenge with 10-15 # fish.. The rod is ideal to the task and the rod action perfect. Side pull on the rod turns the fish. St Croix makes great rods and this is one of them. I am also new to center pinning and believe this will be my go-to center pin rod.

love at first cast   (from prior model)
Pros: Lightweight, strong backbone
Best Uses: Center pin fishing larger rivers
Comments: This rod is a good looking as it is feeling. the ease of a cast from one of these center pin rods is something to write home about. I have this rod matched with an okuma sheffield 1002 silver and it is one of the best combinations i have ever used. This is my first center pin combo and i would highly recommend this rod to anyone that wants a solid rod for an affordable price. If you are fishing smaller creeks i would suggest an 11' rod as 13' is a bit to much.

11' Avid is Awesome   (from prior model)
Pros: Accurate Casting, Lands fish quick and easy, Easy To Transport, I really enjoy this rod, Lightweight, Sensitive
Best Uses: smaller rivers/creeks, steelhead
Comments: I just recently purchased the 11' Avid so I had a shorter center pin rod to use on the smaller creeks/rivers that I regularly fish. My 13' rod is just a bit too long to use on most of my favorite creeks/rivers... so I bought the 11' Avid. I have used the rod on three fishing trips so far and all I can say is that I absolutely love it. I also purchased an Okuma DRII reel which is a wonderful match to this rod. I have caught steelhead, brown trout, and even lake trout (fishing at the mouth of a river flowing into Lake Michigan) on this rod and the rod has handled every fish with ease. All I can say is that I wish I would have purchased this rod years ago....

13' Solid rod (from prior model)
Pros: Flexible, Durable, Good Tip Action, Sensitive
Cons: Hard To Transport
Best Uses: River Fishing, Large Fish
Comments: Great for steelhead and can also put the hurt on the Kings too! I thought this rod seemed a little stiff until I hooked a fish. It was perfect and had plenty of backbone to handle the larger fish.

Love the St. Croix Avid steelhead rod   (from prior model)
Pros: Good Tip Action, Lightweight, Sensitive, Flexible, Accurate Casting, Durable
Best Uses: River Fishing
Comments: I bought the 11'0 model to fish smaller streams. (AVS110LM2 11' 0", L, 2 pc.) This is my first rod for center pin float fishing and I love it! It handles beautifully and it's well made. Also kudos to both FishUSA and St. Croix for their excellent service. I ordered on Tuesday and it arrived in time for a weekend fishing trip, drop shipped from St. Croix.

center pin   (from prior model)
Pros: Flexible, Sensitive, Good Tip Action, Accurate Casting
Best Uses: Large Fish, River Fishing
Comments: .Great pin rod for the money. Well constructed as are all St. Croix. The thirteen footer is a great all around size for large rivers as well as some of the smaller creeks. I love the rod being two piece because I think a two piece rod will always have better action then a three or four piece.

What I Expected and More   (from prior model)
Pros: Durable, Accurate Casting, Good Tip Action, Sensitive
Cons: Hard To Transport
Best Uses: River Fishing, Large Fish
Comments: I fish many of the large rivers in upstate ny and I can easily bring fish to the bank on 6lb line. It is a stiffer rod, but it gives you the ability to put a hook in the fishes mouth on those long drifts but still has the flexibility to protect 6 or even 4lb leaders. Excellent rod, definitely would reccomend it.

St. croix "MADE IN USA"   (from prior model)
Pros: Lands fish quick a easy
Cons: Butt section little bulky
Best Uses: River Fishing
Comments: First day that I fished with it, I landed 8/11 chrome steelhead, 6 were landed in less than a hour. All fish were pushing 10# and over. Blows the st.croix wild river right out of the water.

Can anyone tell me if the line guides on this rod are suitable for using a spinning reel?

The guides on this rod are smaller than those on a spinning rod. Thought the casting distance will be less than a spinning rod, these rods can be used with a spinning reel.

I am looking for a float rod that is suitable for smaller inland trout in the 10-16 inch range, with occasional catches of up to 20+ inches. Considering the 11 foot St. Croix Avid. Thoughts? Thank you.

Looking to get into center pinning for steelies but would like to chase kings as well. Will the 11’er be too little for kings? I currently use a 9’ 8 weight fly rod with no issues. Fish mostly the Kewaunee river and occasionally venture north and south in Wisconsin

You should have no issues, and will most likely love the extra foot plus on the rod. How big do the steelies get there? The longer the rod the better control of the float in my opinion.

I would go to the 13' due to the fact it is a little heaver line weight for the kings.
