No wire laces! (from prior model)
Pros: Great quality and construction
Cons: Wire laces break at the worst times
Comments: Had a pair of the Simms boots with the BOA laces. Out of all of the boots I had, they lasted the longest. They were very light and comfortable. As for the wire laces, I felt they broke too much for me. The wire laces were too expensive and they broke at the worst times. Replacing the wire and other parts can be time consuming and cumbersome. For next my pair of boots, I'm going back to regular laces

Yes, studs can be added. However, this may impact the performance and durability of the felt.
