Shimano Talica Conventional Reels are no exception to Shimano's rule that a smooth drag is very important. However, being able to fish 3 to 4 line classes heavier than you would normally on a reel of its size makes Talica more fun to fish since you spend less time fighting your tackle and more time fighting the fish. Pre-installed with an L.R.S. (Long Range Special) style drag cam, this drag is designed to provide maximum drag output for heavy settings with heavy line.

The Shimano Tekota A Levelwind Reel improves upon the original Tekota line with a full redesign and upgraded components. The original Tekota is legendary for its durability and strength, and the vast improvements in the redesign will be sure to impress any Great Lakes angler or saltwater enthusiast. The Tekota A features Coreprotect water resistance to increase corrosion resistance, as well as a loud clicker and new ergonomic S-Compact body design. The Tekota A is excellent for use with all trolling techniques including downriggers, divers, planer boards, lead core, and wirelines.

  • S-Compact ergonomic body design
  • COREPROTECT
    • The concept of COREPROTECT is simple... to provide water resistance without creating a heavy rotation feeling. There are three key areas of the reel that require protection; the roller clutch, the body and the line roller.
  • HAGANE Body
    • The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength.
  • S A-RB
    • These bearings have been through the same process as Shimano's A-RB bearings, but feature shields on both sides of the bearings that reduce the possibility of salt or sand inhibiting the bearing's rotation.

Great Reels for the Money (from prior model)
Pros: price, Craftsmanship, Capacity
Best Uses: saltwater bottom fishing, saltwater trolling
Comments: I have two different sizes the 600 and the 700 and have used both throughout the last year and have been very satisfied with the performance of both. The 600 holds an over 300 yds of 25lb test and is very castable. The 700 spooled with 50lb mono is capable of moving all but the largest grouper off the bottom and bringing them boat side.

quality reel for salmon   (from prior model)
Pros: Size, Capacity, Craftsmanship, Gear ratio
Cons: Drag
Best Uses: Copper trolling line
Comments: Great for pulling 400+ feet of copper in the Great Lakes for salmon. Drags tend to become sticky before they should but work great after upgrading to the aftermarket carbon fiber discs.
