The Shimano Sienna RE Rear Drag Spinning Reel gives you a convenient, on-the-fly access to the drag. The rear drag system allowing for adjustments to be made with less risk of line trouble or breakage.

  • Rear Drag
  • Propulsion Line Management System
    • The most obvious component of the Propulsion Line Management System is the new Propulsion spool lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations it has been determined that this new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming.
  • Dyna-Balance
    • This feature eliminates wobble during the retrieve by counter balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing, an approach similar to car tire balancing, we are able to redistribute the rotor weight to create smooth rotation and eliminate vibrations.
  • Power Roller II
    • Line twist arising from repeated casting and retrieving is reduced by as much as 50% on reels equipped with the Power Roller line twist reduction system. Power Roller's special grooved design assures the line will be wrapped on the spool to minimize unwanted loops and twists during the cast.
  • Super Stopper II
    • Uses a one-way roller bearing that eliminates back-play. This provides the angler with instant hook setting power.
  • Varispeed
    • Normal oscillation systems use a constant rotation of the oscillation gear that, when translated to the cam, provides an inconsistent spool speed. This results in line lay that stacks at either end of the spool. By using an oval oscillation gear, we are able to alter the speed of the oscillation cam to provide a consistent spool speed. This results in an even line lay that provides excellent castability and manageability.

Great for the price (from prior model)
Pros: Price, Easy casting, Smooth
Cons: Not as durable as is could be
Best Uses: Light line (2-6 lb test)
Comments: I have this reel on a 10'6" light action rod that I use for drifting live and artificial baits. I don't know why rear drag reels aren't super popular, because they should be. This reel is great although it is a bit, well, flimsy. The wire for the bail will bend if you bump it, and if you slip and fall, something is probably going to break. It's a spectacular reel as long as you do not play rough with it. If it was $80 and a lot more durable I would be totally fine with it.

Fine reel   (from prior model)
Pros: Smooth Reeling
Cons: Quick Fire & higher spool capacity would be nice
Best Uses: Light fresh water, boat or shore
Comments: I own two of these reels, one with front drag, one with rear drag. Previous reviewers have called this an "entry level" reel; I disagree. Being primarily a Crappie man, my first Sienna came as part of a combo with a medium light Shimano rod. Three years and many fish later, it's still performing perfectly. Along the way, I've landed many species other than Crappie, including some decent Largemouth Bass, Channel Cats, even a Northern Pike, all on Crappie gear; next problem will be the first. The only caution I would suggest is to make sure the anti-reverse is engaged; this reel's action is so smooth that it WILL reverse itself if you're not paying attention, and create a mess if you're not careful. I've been an avid angler for 60+ years, and owned many different brands of reels. Of all of them, I much prefer the Shimanos.

Great Reel!   (from prior model)
Pros: Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling
Cons: Wish it had the Quick Fire setup.
Best Uses:
Comments: I have used Shimano reels for many years. This is the first new reel I have purchased in quite a while. I'm very impressed. I would have liked the Quick Fire casting feature, but still a great reel.

5 Stars in it's class   (from prior model)
Pros: Rear Drag
Best Uses:
Comments: You get Shimano's Technology, a reliable reel at a great price and a rear drag. Merely lifting the rod with a fish on places the drag knob at eye level. Much easier to control rear drag , than trying to reach up and around the line to adjust a front drag. I purchased the reel for ultra-light use -2-3# line- from a preset drag on light line - it is often necessary to LOOSEN the drag...easier with rear drag.

Good value!   (from prior model)
Pros: Price
Comments: This reel is a good value, entry level Shimano reel that performs very well. I like the rear drag adjustment when I have a fish on and want to change the drag. It is a great entry level reel for someone looking for an inexpensive spinning reel that will still give you that smooth Shimano feel.

Pros: Durable, Line Doesn't Tangle, Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling, Easy Casting, Shimano, Rear drag, Reliable
Cons: No Fightin' Drag
Best Uses: All fresh water, Shore Casting, River Fishing, Ice fishing

Pros: Durable, Smooth Drag System, Smooth Reeling
Comments: I do a lot of striper fishing ususally taking my kids and their friends the rear drag is a huge plus for the kids who have no experience fighting fish. I can adjust the drag without interfering with the catching. Great reel. I own 12.
