These will not provide adequate ankle support for such activities.

My apologies, but I believe we have a misunderstanding? My question relates to the sole of these shoes not the ankle. Are the soles of these shoes thick enough to walk in the rocky bottoms of streams and not hurt the bottoms of my feet? I am not concerned with ankle support. Thank you.

These wading shoes should provide enough sole to protect your feet from the rocky bottoms.

I use these with and without waders, with waders I go up two sizes

As these are designed for warm-weather wading where heavy socks are not used, so you should order your actual shoe size and should only go up a size if you wear half-sizes.

So if you were to wear some kind of sock with these boots what would you recommend? Sorry new to all this.
