I noticed some of the inline ice reels have a button that you push to free-spool the bait or jig to the bottom. How does this one work, assuming it doesn't have that feature? Do you loosen the drag, reel backwards or something else?

The Frabill Straight Line 101 XLA Reel does not have the free spool feature. This reel requires you to pull the line out of the reel by hand. Loosing the drag would make pulling the line out easier.

You have to turn it around and spool it per the hand you use for retrieving, it's ambidextrous.
