Regarding rigging the Cannon Retro-Ease downrigger weight retriever: when I run my stainless downrigger cable through the pulley, which side of the pulley, relative to the boat, is recommended for stringing the cable? I choose the side nearest and facing the side of the boat so that the cable rests against the pulley when pulling the retro-ease retrieval string towards the boat. I could have chosen the outer side facing away from the boat thinking the stainless downrigger cable will ride better then when deployed, but will rest against the inside of the outer portion of the pulley housing when retrieving the retro-ease pulley w/ the attached string. The Cannon directions/diagram is not clear which side of the pulley to utilize. Would you be able to provide more concise guidance? Feel free to post on your Q&A menu for this item.
Also, for my older style 2007 MAG10 HS, is there a recommended BEST location to mount the retro-ease line catch using the two SS self-tapping screws provided?EZVEY
This is what Cannon's main service tech provided:
On electric downriggers such as the Mag 10HS, we recommend you mount the weight retriever on the opposite side of the motor housing. The recommended position is between the drag knob and the area where the downrigger attaches to the mounting base. The direction of the pulley for the retriever does not make a difference either. It just attaches to the cable to give you something to pull against, bringing the weight into reach.FishUSA StaffProfessional Angler
