I've had great luck with these in chart/lime or chart/orange (1/64 oz.) when tipped with a Berkley Gulp Alive 1" Minnow in Smelt or Emerald Shiner rigged 2-3 feet below a swivel and weighted Thill float. This in is my go-to search rig on midwestern ponds and rivers, as well as my fall back when the bite is slow. The weighted float lets you cast anywhere you need to go, and the light little jig gives a nice, slow-sinking twitch & retrieve presentation that often draws strikes on the first cast. Sunfish, bluegill and crappie just crush it, but don't rule out the occasional largemouth or smallmouth either. I've even had channel cats thrash this when bounced down a river bottom. This seems to catch fish when nothing else will, drawing side eye from all the other anglers sitting idle on the bank. I used to carry a huge tackle box with everything under the sun. Now it's just a med/light casting rod, this rig with a few spares, a hip pack with hook sharpener and hemostat and I'm good to go.

These little baits are one of the best baits for pan fish. I use them straight line over the side of the boat for perch & bluegills. Crappies also love these little baits. I even catch an occasional walleye also! I usually tip them with a waxy or a red worm. However, they work ok without. Good fishing to all!!
