I've had a gas auger for years and have toyed with the idea of switching over to a battery operated unit. I really wasn't in a super hurry because I wanted the battery technology to really get better and at the price point for these units it was a big nut to crack. FishUSA ran a great promo on this unit (base price decrease plus and additional $70 off)and it really fell into my pricing window so I took the leap. Gotta tell ya, I love this thing. I used it once so far last weekend. It's much lighter, doesn't smell, isn't loud, doesn't leak gas, etc. Really happy I bought this. Hopefully the battery life holds up; following all directions on charging and maintenance on the battery care. If I run into any issues I'll update this review...if I can.

I bought the 8" version in January of 2019. It took a lot of reviews and research before I pulled the trigger on this purchase. Mainly because of the cost. I was lucky enough to find it with two batteries which sweetened the deal. Unfortunately they only come with one battery now. I am very happy with this auger. It is lighter, no need to mix gas and oil any more, no trying to fill the tank with the crappy pour spouts they have on gas cans now, no more yanking on the pull cord trying to get the thing to fire up, no feathering the throttle to keep it running while moving between places to drill holes. All my buddies that have tried it while fishing have been very impressed with the way it cuts through the ice and the battery life. And it is a lot easier on the ears. I owned a Jiffy 30 gas auger and have always struggled with it to get it to run. No more. If you can afford it, come to the dark side, and get an electric. It is well worth the price.

Torn between this and the ion x. Extra battery did it for me. Shipping was fast and hassle free. FishUSA gave me a very favorable shopping experience. I have used gas and drill setups in the past. Pulled the trigger on this as it was a gift. I was skeptical at first with electric augers, specifically in cold weather. Extremely happy with my purchase. Auger is 24lbs which is admittedly 2 times heavier than my buddies milwaukee kdrill setup. Thats the only downside to this auger. It cuts very fast, its nice and quiet, blades are great, reverse works as advertised, lights are a nice addition and they do work pretty good. Auger looks well built, switches seem to be pretty sturdy, they dont feel cheap at all. Blew about 30 holes in 8 inches of ice and battery still showed full. Left auger out in elements, no issues with battery. The bar has been set with this electric auger. When it comes back into stock. Grab one, you will not regret it.

I had been going back and forth between getting a propane powered auger and an electric auger, but the additional battery being included sold it for me. This thing is a dream to use and I've never had the battery show anything but full even after a full day. We typically drill 30-40 holes each trip out so we are not coming close to the, advertised, 100 holes possible for the 8" auger. However, there is never any sign of battery drain or let up with power. It just goes and goes and does so very quickly. I could not be happier with how well this auger is designed.
