St Croix Avid Delivers
Having this rod for a few months now I decided I would give it an honest review. For the price it is exactly what I expected. No more, no less. The rod is light and balanced and feels like a premium st croix rod. When fighting fish you can feel every move and you can turn fish in the right situations. It holds up really well and let's the backbone fight the fish not the rod tip. This is the best rod I have used for steelhead fishing and if you have the money this rod is absolutely worth taking a good look at.
worth the money
This rod is amazing, i have landed a few browns and steelhead with it so far and it has performed perfectly. spend the money and get this rod, its worth it. mine is paired up with the raven matrix special edition xl and it works great. Get this rod!
St Croix equals Quality

I purchased the 11 ft. light with sliding rings. I am just re-getting used to the sliding rings and the tape has been applied to make them non-sliding. I am using 8# test on a spinning reel to float fish for Bronzeheads , warm- water -admit it- carp. Tangle filled shallow river pools are a challenge with 10-15 # fish.. The rod is ideal to the task and the rod action perfect. Side pull on the rod turns the fish. St Croix makes great rods and this is one of them. I am also new to center pinning and believe this will be my go-to center pin rod.
11' Avid is Awesome

I just recently purchased the 11' Avid so I had a shorter center pin rod to use on the smaller creeks/rivers that I regularly fish. My 13' rod is just a bit too long to use on most of my favorite creeks/rivers... so I bought the 11' Avid. I have used the rod on three fishing trips so far and all I can say is that I absolutely love it. I also purchased an Okuma DRII reel which is a wonderful match to this rod. I have caught steelhead, brown trout, and even lake trout (fishing at the mouth of a river flowing into Lake Michigan) on this rod and the rod has handled every fish with ease. All I can say is that I wish I would have purchased this rod years ago....
What I Expected and More

I fish many of the large rivers in upstate ny and I can easily bring fish to the bank on 6lb line. It is a stiffer rod, but it gives you the ability to put a hook in the fishes mouth on those long drifts but still has the flexibility to protect 6 or even 4lb leaders. Excellent rod, definitely would reccomend it.
