NEW VERSION OF RIPRAP SHOE IS A DISGRACE

by

The concept is great. I owned the first version of the RipRap shoe and it lasted well over 200 fishing days. Sadly, they finally wore out so I bought the new version. What a mistake! Simms took a solid product and crashed it. Lets start with the soles. Instead of Vibram, they made a cheap two part sole which starts delaminating and becomes a sure fire trap for your fly line or worse your running line. The part of the uppers that "protect" the mesh from abrasion are made of fake leather that is trouble free for a little longer than the soles but it also starts to delaminate spreading plastic waste in your favorite fishing spot. Then the next layer starts to abrade exposing the mesh which doesn't last long when exposed to rocks. Finally, the whole upper starts to separate from the sole. How long does this take? Less than 50 fishing days. With regard to the first version of the RipRap shoe, Simms would be wise to head the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it".
