Ultralight Shimano Reel

by Bad Dog -

Bought because it's small, light and has a good reputation for reliability. It fits well in my pack for backpacking in Colorado, and is convenient for float fishing.

Solid Little Reel

by Coose

This is a pretty solid little reel. I have the 1000 and spooled it up with some 4lb test mono, casts amazing for such a compact reel. Very smooth on the retrieve, have experienced no line twist or tangles in 3 months of fishing since I got this reel, so a total of 10 fishing trips without issue. Haven't caught any real big fish yet with it, but I did crank in a good size pickerel with plenty of fight in him, the drag was pretty smooth but felt just a bit under powered to me. Overall, for the money, this would be a tough reel to beat for all around smooth performance with SUPER long casts.

Best reel for the $

by Old man Don -

Use it for both river steelhead and lake smallmouth fishing. Great cranking ease and lightweight.
