When I unpacked this thing I instantly called it junk just based on the feel of the material from the rod, and the action in my hand. However, after taking it out with a medium spoon (What I am most familiar with for cast and feel test) I was pretty surprised at its performance. I bought the 6'6 4piece, Medium action, 6-15lb. When I put it in my carry on bag it fits at a diagonal and I could pack my other cloths and stuff around it to keep the rod safe, no problem. Rod Loaded up pretty well for long cast. On the shorter cast it didn't perform that great, but that's not why I bought this rod. For Vacation fishing on the beach or lakes where I travel, this will work. Would I like a better rod on vacation, sure, but the airlines don't make that easy on us. Id say, good buy for the money and don't shy away from its atypical material/construction.
Nice Size but...
Rod just arrived in the mail, and upon first inspection isn't what I was expecting from the Ugly Stick brand. The material feels more like a cheep archery arrow than a fishing rod. I cannot yet speak to its performance, but will update my review hopefully within a week. Not your typical material or flex out the box.

Great pack rod for backpacking in the High Sierra. Good action. Very durable. Stows away nicely. Use with micro reel.

Purchased the 6'6" 4pc rod to take to Hawaii. It was a lifesaver for a die hard fisherman. Easy to pack in a suit case along with some very limited tackle. I caught a couple barracudas and lizard fish. The rod performed well. The only problem was, the sections will work loose after multiple cast. I just kept squeezing them together after maybe 20 -30 casts. The little extra effort doesn't change my opinion that this is a great buy before you travel. Probably best for bass and walleye, but worked great in the pacific.
excellent value travel rod.

Purchased this rod for an upcoming vacation to New Zealand. I will angling for trout. Excellent value for money, quality of construction is up there with my daiwa and shimano rods, fantastic that they are about $100 cheaper than what I paid for those. They are much more responsive than the previous generation of ugly stik rods. I' m very impressed. My only concern is that maybe in the long run they will not be as indestructible as older ugly stiks. I'll let you know after a few trips how it handles a beating.
