changed rods. went fishing for catfish using 4lb and a # 6 hook and to my surprize, caught a nice 3lb catfish. had to loosen the drag a bit, so not to loose the fish, and after bout 10 minutes, landed it. most fun I had in a long time. I was fishing with hotdog skins soaked in koolaid with a touch of garlic. think I'll try a circle hook next time..
A Panfishing Wonder!!

A lot of the reviews here are from folks who use this reel for ice fishing or long lining, but I bought this reel to pair with a 6'9" St. Croix ultralight panfish series rod... I spooled it with 2 lb. test Trilene XL (red box). Obviously it will throw a 1/16 oz jig head well, but where this combo really shines is with 1/32 jig heads and smaller. Pair a 1/32 or a 1/64 oz. jig head with a 1 inch Gulp minnow and you'll catch every fish in the water! The drag system is also perfect for small fish... even little 4 inch panfish are a blast. My favorite lure to cast with it so far is a 1/50 oz. Betts beetle spin. Pros:
- Very lightweight
- Smooth and balanced
- Large spool for its size
- Comes with two spools
- Absolutely beautiful drag system, seemingly infinitely adjustable
- Only thing I can think of is the non-infinite anti-reverse. Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have.
A fish catcher!

Great reel. I work them hard then purchase new ones.
Great little reel.
This is a decent reel, especially for the price. Smooth action and lightweight. It comes with an extra spool too! My only complaint would be the play when to reverse the spool, about an 1/8th inch or so. That's the reason for four stars.
