Clip Release

Definition of clip release

When fly fishing, the fly line, leader, and fly are swung in the air in a casting motion but not allowed to land on the water. Typically overused, it is a helpful movement to increase the amount of fly line needed for distance casting gauge distance and accuracy and to change directions mid-cast. It is also helpful as a fast way to partially air-dry a dry fly which has become waterlogged.
