Best bang for the buck
This is a great rod. I have the 7' medium- fast action. Awesome for walleyes and smallmouth. I have many St. Croix rods, and this one will stand up to any of them. I personally think it's the best bang for the buck.
HMG 6 1/2' light action
I've got one of the 6' 6" 2 piece light action models and it is a great trout rod. Usually I fish for trout with an ultralight, but where the fish may be a tad larger, I really like this rod. Paired with a Pfleuger Supreme reel in the 1000 size, and spooled with Power Pro 10# test and usually a 6# test fluorocarbon leader, it's pretty awesome. Caught a 3# plus smallie on it not long ago and it had enough backbone to do the job.
Wish I hadn't....
Bought this about a month ago from FishUSA & have fished with it quite a few times. I was actually disappointed in the quality of the rod & the way it's put together. The joint is terrible, it doesn't feel like a solid connection, like it's only really connected by a couple of millimeters. Poor guide choice as well, WAY to small & causes short casts. Reel seat is VERY small! The foot of the reel can not be longer than 2-1/8 inches. Holes in the cork where the cork filler had already come out before the first use. Very poor hook keeper placement, you'll get to feel how sharp they are, I promise 🤣. The rod is poorly designed with poor choices made on the hardware of it & not worth 100$ in my opinion & that was my poor choice...
I own a 7'6" light action and I'm very happy with it. Using it for smallies and panfish. The workmanship on this rod is excellent. The HMG looks and feels great when paired with a Pflueger Supreme XT spinning reel.
