Caddis pupa imitations effectively target trout as they zoom about seeking to eat as many of this insect as they can before the bug fully breaks through surface film, dries wings, and escapes. - Mimics a swimming caddis fly, now nearly an adult, as it makes its way to the surface water and rides just below in the surface film
- Technique: look for "porpoising" trout; fish as you would any nymph on a dead drift; it may ride semi-dry in the surface film; you may also find twitching the fly slightly throughout the drift successful; or, try a tight-line high-stick approach using the leader to guide the fly in the current
