Selections from a Blue Quill Dry Fly - 2 Pack should be among the first slots in a fly box for you to pull from when fishing in early April in the Appalachians, late April/early May in the Northeast and Central U.S. Blue Quills are small mayflies that can hatch in huge numbers and even on the darkest and coldest days. Hatches may last several hours each day even in such intemperate weather and the height of these hatches last a week almost everywhere. One can find Blue Quills hatching in the Upper Midwest by late May and running into early June in the higher elevations in the East and also in the Upper Midwest. After a winter bereft of surface activity, trout hungrily look for them as they arrive. Don't get caught short early in the season without selections from these Blue Quill Dry Fly - 2 Packs!

  • Use for brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, and others
  • Mimics the Mayfly family Leptophlebiidae, small-bodied insects which often hatch just before the Hendricksons do; if you see tiny blue winged, brown-bodied mayfly with three tails in the spring, it's probably a Blue Quill; additionally, a related mayfly, the Mahogany Duns, hatch late in the summer or early fall for which the Blue Quill Dry Fly matches well
  • Technique: nymphs will move to shallow and calm waters prior to hatching, so look for the duns here; go tiny with a hook size because these are small mayflies; because they hatch in slower waters trout have more time to inspect the offering; in the West, a size 14 will often do; hatches occur sporadically from midday to the evening; as is often the case with other mayfly patterns, give your Blue Quill Dry Fly a long float
