At a Glance: Artificial Baits
Artificial baits are products designed to specifically imitate the look and scent of live bait without the expense and difficulty of storing and transporting live bait. Artificial baits include hard and soft plastic eggs and roe, paste and dough, nuggets made of similar compounds to dough but hold their shape better, larvae and waxies, and baitfish. The advantages to using artificial bait include the price (these can be less expensive than live bait), lifespan (artificial baits can last multiple trips out in the hot sun, where live bait would rot after one trip), storage (in bags, jars, and tubs instead of livewells and messy sawdust or dirt), and selection (there are artificial baits for every situation in any type of water). Artificial baits with scent are also extremely consistent when attracting fish and have a higher chance of working since scents can linger in the water and lead fish to the bait, unlike lures. Species genetically geared to eat eggs are easy targets with the wide range of colors and scents available, in both hard and soft styles. FishUSA offers a tremendous selection of artificial baits for saltwater and freshwater species.
FishUSA carries Berkley, Strike King and Atlas Mike's artificial baits, among others.
