Comments: great rod nothing better than a ugly stik!!!!
Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 Ice Rods
Comments: I have two GX2 poles, M and MH both jig raps very well. # 3 or 5 rap works great on the M and 7,9 on the MH. I use both for walleye fishing. They are the best bang for your buck.

Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 Ice Rod
Comments: Love these rods. I'm pretty hard on my ice fishing equipment & Ugly Stiks are the only rods that come home in one piece trip after trip. They fish almost as good as straight graphite, but will take 10 times the abuse. Initally ordered 4 in M, changed my mind & returned 2 in exchange for 2 MH. Entire process was painless, exactly as ordered, & done in a reasonable time. FishUSA is good place to do business.

Great Rods! (from prior model)
Pros: Sensitive, Flexible, Lightweight, Durable
Best Uses: Ice Fishing
Comments: I purchased four of these rods from FishUSA, two light and two medium. I was concerned about the reel seat system, as many people complained about the sliding graphite rings inability to secure their reels. I solved that problem quickly by sliding the forward ring as far forward as possible on the EVA foam grip, to where it flares/widens. I then mounted the reel and slid the rear graphite ring onto the reel seat. Then, while holding the rods by the grip and in my right hand, with the tip pointed at the floor, I exerted several pounds of downward pressure on the rear graphite ring with my left hand, locking everything in place. I did not need tape of any kind. I have used these rods on several trips now, getting numerous rainbow trout and arctic char in the 15-20" range. The graphite rings haven't moved and my reels have remained in place. The rod shafts are of solid design, strong at the base and progressively tapering to a sensitive tip. The rod eyes are over-sized to compensate for ice build-up and there is a hook keeper included. A screaming value, IMO! I highly recommend. Typical Ugly Stick quality and construction.

Poor real handle (from prior model)
Pros: Good Tip Action
Comments: Great action on the rod itself, but the real handle is just a pain. I have three other Ugly Stiks that have the screw down real handles and they are GREAT. I will never buy another ice rod with this type of real handle, it's just a pain.

Best ice rods available (from prior model)
Pros: Durable, Last forever, Sensitive, Flexible, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action
Best Uses: Ice fishing for any size
Comments: I've been ice fishing with ugly sticks for years, and they are my first choice for an ice rod. I have tried many others 100% graphite and the like and they just don't hold up under the pressue like these Ugly Sticks.

Definitely an Ugly Stick (from prior model)
Pros: Durable
Best Uses: Ice fishing
Comments: Great ice rod. Bought the 30" for a laker set up that would be able to take abuse. This rod definitely lives up to "ugly stick" standards.

Missing the Basics (from prior model)
Pros: Durable
Cons: Poor Construction
Best Uses: Small Fish
Comments: The Ugly Stick name let me down on this one. The basic rod is ok. The problem is that the reel mount just uses the friction of the handle to hold the rear reel mount in place. The rod is missing the Ugly Stick twist lock. Even a basic backing nut would work to secure the reel. As it is, you have to constantly keep securing the reel to keep if from falling off.

Great for young fishermen. (from prior model)
Pros: Durable, Easy To Transport, Flexible
Best Uses: Small Fish
Comments: I live in South Florida so I don't Ice fish but would like to try one day.I bought this rod for my 4 year old grandson because as you know the little reels that you buy at the store won't hold up.I was very satisfied with the Shakespeare Ice rod it's small and he can handle it.And by the way he can already make his own cast and is doing well with it.

Funky handle (from prior model)
Pros: Flexible, Durable, Light, Sensitive, Easy To Transport, Good Tip Action, Good price
Cons: Reel Holding compartment
Best Uses: Ice fishing, Small Fish, Large Fish
Comments: Great Pole for Ice Fishing. Professional TOp dollar pole for an extremely good price Great Price. Very Durable and by getting the 2.2 LIght very sensative. BAD PART: The Reel holding compartment is pretty cheap. A couple of times when I had a huge fish on, it would pull my reel off my pole and my reel would fall in the water. That part sucks. I would recomment using some black electrical tape to help secure the reel. Ugly stick also makes a pole with a reel holder that is a screw down. I just purchased that one, but yet to try it out.

Best Yet (from prior model)
Pros: Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Comments: Ugly Stik's are by far the best ice fishing rods I have used. Just like their open water rods they are practically indestructible. I previously would buy new rods every year as my rods always seemed to fall apart by seasons end given the rigors of transportation for ice fishing. So far I haven't had to replace any of the four Ugly Stik rods I have. These are taking a beating and working well. Not even a bent eye! My only con is that they might not be sensitive enough for some small pan fish. So far they are working well for me down to about fish of the eight inch trout variety.
