Description

Okuma Cold Water Line Counter Reels feature corrosion resistant frame and side plates. The Cold Water series from Okuma sport quality external components including, an aluminum spool engage lever, ratcheting aluminum star drag, a titanium coated wide-mouth levelwind, machined aluminum spool and a stamped aluminum power handle featuring an ergonomic non-slip rubber grip. The Okuma Cold Water Line Counter Reels also feature quality internal components such as; heavy-duty machine cut brass gears, dual anti-reverse system and a full Carbonite drag system. The internal components are held solidly in place with the Okuma MSS (Mechanical Stabilization System), a one-piece hold plate that assures long termalignmentt of the gears and shafts.

Cold Water Line Counter Reels have two ball bearings and one one-way roller bearing. They also feature a custom designed linecounter. The first major upgrade in the line counter is a recessed reset button on the right side that virtually eliminates errant and unwanted reset of the line counter. The second major upgrade to the line counter is Okuma's two stage anti-fogging Clear View Technology (CVT). The interior of the linecounter window has been treated with anti-fogging agents to prevent condensation build up. If the linecounter should be overwhelmed with condensation, there is a left side access port that allows the water to be removed and dried out completely.

Features of the Okuma Cold Water Line Counter Reels include:

  • Beautiful machined aluminum spool
  • Okuma's "QuickSet" infinite anti-reverse one-way bearing
  • Precision cut, heavy-duty brass gears
  • Corrosion resistant frame and side-plates
  • Titanium coated level wind
  • Oversized, super smooth, multi-disk Carbonite drag system
  • Ergonomic stamped aluminum power handle with oversized, comfortable knob
  • Line counter measuring line in feet
  • Large star drag mechanism
  • Line clicker

cw153d
Pros: loud clicker
Cons: none yet
Best Uses: all around
Comments: the cw153d reel is awesome! I have over 200 yrds of 50lb power pro braid line on a okuma 10'6'' plunking rod. the drag works smooth from steelhead and salmon to sturgeon in the pacific north west!! the new cw's are very comparable to shimano's tekotas but less expensive(both are great reels though).

 Not Impressed
Pros: Feel and look good
Cons: Drag system
Comments: Bought 4 of these reels hoping to use them as Dipsy Diver reels fishing salmon on Lake Michigan. They Did not work well at all. The drags were very inconsistent and the line will creep unless the drag is tightened beyond a reasonable setting. They do look and feel nice and may be good for other types or applications, but not for Dipsys.

Disappointed
Pros: looks and drag system
Cons: linecounter
Comments: Bought 4 with the idea that I was going to switch out all my reels over the season. On my FIRST outing 2 failed to accurately count the line in...confirmed the failure when I later put them on a 100 foot tape to calibrate...I liked the way they looked and felt...like the drag...but if the line counter isn't accuate...what's the point...totally disappointed

 Nice reel
Pros: Line counter
Cons: Drag stuck first one used
Best Uses: Walleye
Comments: I have okuma convectors. I like the line counters on the cold water better. One of the reels I got the drag was a little sticky but seems to be getting better.

Okuma Reel
Pros: Great drag system, low profile to rod
Comments: The reels I bought are the Okuma Clarion 204D Line Counters. They have worked flawlessly all last season hooking Chinook Salmon and Steelhead. One thing that I did notice was the line counter fogged up. Okuma has resolved that problem with on their new Cold Water line counter reels.
