 >  > Okuma Avenger B Spinning Reels
Description

The Okuma Avenger B Spinning Reels offer a tremendous value in durable, super-smooth six ball-bearing front drag reels. Okuma has again increased the spool capacities for each size Avenger while decreasing the overall weights, thanks to the redesigned spools and and thinner, stronger blade bodies. The patented Elliptical Gearing System provides a smoothness normally found in reels priced much higher than the Avenger B.

The Okuma Avenger B Spinning Reels models AV-10b through AV-30b feature standard handle grips. Models AV-35b through AV-80b feature larger "T" shaped handles.

Features of the Okuma Avenger B Spinning Reels include:

  • 6 ball bearings
  • QuickSet anti-reverse bearing
  • RES II Rotor Equalizing System
  • Lightweight, 2-tone aluminum spool
  • Elliptical Gearing System
  • Precision, machine cut brass pinion gear
  • High quality Japanese oiled felt drag washers
  • Blade body design
  • Corrosion resistant graphite body and rotor construction
  • Corrosion resistant stainless steel bail wire
  • EFR II line roller
  • Reversible right and left hand retrieve

About Me:

I bought my AV-10B because it was priced so low I could not pass it up. I didn't need it and thought I'd use it as a backup to my more expensive ultralights. I treated it poorly and used it for ice fishing. By the time spring arrived, it had convinced me to try it for stream trout. This little reel outperformed all my other small reels and has become my go-to. I keep 2 rods in my trunk everyday for shorefishing, one light rod for panfish/trout, and one med-heavy for pike/bass/cats/etc. This reel has won me over so much that last summer, I just carried this one reel with 2 spools for the 2 rods. Mine has endured some poor treatment and minimal maintenance for 3 seasons and still performs like new. I'm very impresed.
Pros: durable, smooth, underpriced, tough
Cons: none
Best Uses: trout, panfish, Ice fishing

About Me:
Novice
I bought an AV-10B at a "I-don't-need-it-but-it's-too-cheap-to-pass-up" price. I figured it would make a good backup for my more expensive ultralights and I put it to use on an ice rod. I really treat my ice fishing gear poorly, so it should've been in bad shape by spring, but to my surprise, it outperformed my other ultralights and became my go-to reel for stream trout and panfish. I like it so much, I filled my second spool with 8lb last summer and used it on both the panfish and the bass/pike rods that stay with me everyday in my trunk for shorefishing. I've left it in a bucket of slime, dropped it in sand, accidentally used to to break my fall on the way down a hill... After 3 years of true abuse, it still feels new and way outperforms it's pricepoint. GREAT REEL!
Pros: durable, Smooth, nice drag, well sealed, light
Cons: none
Best Uses: Ice fishing, panfish, trout

I purchased this avenger 10b with intent to try on ice. I mainly fish for walleye and it did hold up to the test. The larger handle made it very easy to use with or without gloves. The 6 ball bearings held up very well in the cold and the drag worked flawless as well with no surges. I will be swapping out my entire ice force with okuma avengers this season.

About Me:
New to Pier Fishing ... 5 times
Purchased my first Okuma Avenger Reel while pier fishing on the North Carolina coast. Was using my regular smaller spin reels that I use for inland bass fishing. These smaller reels work great for bass fishing, but were not heavy enough for the pier fishing. Decided to get a larger reel and purchased the Okuma Avenger. I fished 2 days on the pier using this new Okuma Avenger and was well satisfied. I caught numereous small fish and landed 2 drum both measuring 21 inches each. Had no problem working and landing these 2 larger fish ... was fun and exciting. This Okuma Avenger Reel was the ticket for pier fishing. I came home and ordered 3 more Okuma Avenger Spin Reels just for my next trip to the coast for pier/surf fishing.
Pros: All the same pros as my first review
Cons: none so far.

Bought one of these reels while on the coast of NC doing some pier fishing. Used it for 2 days on the pier ... loved it for pier fishing!!! Do a lot of inland bass fishing and the spinning gear that I use for bass fishing was just too small for the job on the pier. I thought so much of this reel that I ordered three more just for pier/surf fishing at the coast. Will know more about these reels with my next visit to the coast ... looking forward to using them then.

THE REEL IS FLUID IN MOTION AND A GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE. I HAVE MANY MORE MORE EXSPENSIVE REELS AND THIS ONE IS WHAT I CONSIDER A BACKUP REEL WHEN YOUR A MILE AWAY FROM YOUR TRUCK. WHILE USING IT AND RETRIEVING LINE I FOUND MYSELF USING IT EVERYTIME OUT. LOVE IT AND MY 2 FRIENDS BOUGHT THE SAME REEL FOR THEMSELVES. NEW YORK TROUT I WOULD GO BIGGER, BUT IN PENNSYLVANIA IS USE A 9 FOOT FLOAT ROD FOR TROUT AND QUITE SIMPLE, COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!

I waited eagerly quite a while for this smallest of the Avenger series (AV-10b). I have not been disappointed. This reel is great. I use it primarily for ice fishing. The size is just right for my 24-26" ultra-light perch rods. It is smooth and precise. Solid anti-reverse. It just has a nice feel to it. Too bad ice season is ending soon. I want to use it more.
Pros: Level line wind, Small size, Solid construction, Smooth drag, Compact bail, Price is excellent

I have been using these reels for three years. I do use them alot at least once a week and have used these reels to catch some big fish 20-25 pounds on light test line. They are smooth even being used in salt water and have reasonalble drags. The finish will wearout but they still work fine. I have owned several HIGH DOLLAR but ,those reels now stay home. For what you pay to have a reel professionally cleaned one time you can buy one of these reels. Very good reel for the money and if sometime down the road they stop working I will save the parts and pull out a new one, I bought a half dozen for reserve , thats how much I think of these reels, you can't go wrong.!!!
Pros: Price, guality very light, smooooth

I bought one of these reels at a local sporting goods store for $30.00 about 3 years ago. I just bought eight more at $19.95. Does that tell you something? It is a GREAT inexpensive reel that you can just leave in the back of your truck. I really do love a reel that's somewhat light and I can beat the crap out of it.
Pros: Durable, Great Price. Great Drag

I have been fishing Redfish with junk reels which is a difficult. I also have a Penn 360 Slammer which is primo but a bit oversized for inshore and cost 5 times as much. I downsized to the Avenger 30a with 20# braid on a 5'-6 medium action rod. The fight is teriffic compared to just winching the fish in. The 6 ball bearings and really smooth drag system have added sport to fishing.
Pros: 6 ball bearing, Smooth Drag System, super low price

Bang for the buck. As soon as I got it, I used the 30a to catch my personal best largemouth at a lake in Southern California. The drag works excellent and the spinning action on the reel is incredibly smooth. Next, I took the 30a out to Hawaii and caught several Ulua (Papio) on shrimp. Those fish fight hard and the reel did a great job of handling the fish.

I fish from kayaks in salt inshore or shorleline areas, catching large stripers and blues. I love to do this on such light tackle as the Avenger 30, because these reels meet the challenge, and for the price, who cares if it lasts me about two years or so?? I've bought Stradics and other more expensive reels, and MAYBE they last longer .. maybe not. These reels are great and cost a bit more than the line I put on them. Super value!! I always keep a couple new ones around.

Great reel. I use this with the HT IBM-30 Ice Fishing Rod. I purchased 3 and am really happy with them. I fish for Browns and Rainbows on Lake Michigan in the Southeastern Wisconsin marinas where there is a world class Browntrout fishery. This handles great and I definately reccommend them. Was great getting a deal on them at 1/2 off.

Okuma Avenger is one of the most durable and reliable fishing reel for light salt water fishing. I been doing near shore reef fishing in Hawaii for the past 20+ years. No other reels that I tried works. Some more expensive salt water reels start having problem after coupe fishing trips. I would recommend this reels to anyone who do regular light salt water fishing.

smoother than my Daiwas, this is a nice solid quality instrument. But I wish the additional spool (supplied with this reel) was the same quality as the primary metal spool rather than plastic... maybe Okuma could offer the option of adding additional metal spools with the initial order.

The A65A series is a great reel, so's the larger one. The lesser reels tend to not be as dependable but are good for begginners. I fish 6 days a week, own fishing resorts in Costa Rica and fish Colorado Rivers almost daily. These are care free reels, even if maintenance is ignored, to a degree. Beats all the newer reels I've worked in business and professionally. In fact I'm ordering more as I write. Randy Smith, Glenwood Springs, CO. P.O. About Me:

I surf cast along the mid California coast and this reel has worked great on my 10 foot Custom Striker grafite pole with both bait and jigs from 3 oz. up to 12 oz. that I have used. I have had no problems after trying it out over several weekends off the shore and with a lighter rod on two costal rivers. The extra plastic bail really came in handy when I went up a river from the beach and needed to change to a lighter test line. The reel is smooth and dependable and holds enough line to make those long casts out past the breakers with out having to go out to far. This is the first Okuma product I have purchased and will buy more considering the exelent quality.

I have had 3 of these reel break off where they connect to the rod. Every time i had a fish on. The warrenty stinks. You pay shipping both ways and have to pay for money order. They told me they had some bad reels out. Then they should pay shipping. Then instead of a new reel you get a rebuilt one. No more okuma for me!

About Me:

I was looking forward to using this reel, but was soon disappointed when I tried it out. The line dragged too much when casting and it was difficult to get any distance even with a heavier lure. It was difficult to reel and release the bail, and the line was constantly getting tangled and twisted. The reel was also too heavy for my liking. It was very frustrating fishing with it.
