 >  > Islander Steelheader Centerpin Float Reels
Description

The Islander Steelheader (IS) is one of the best centerpin float reels on the market. Super smooth is the only way to describe this reel. Just grab the handle and spin the spool. The spool spins effortlessly, which is the result of precision CNC machining, bearings and balance.

The refined design, with only twenty five parts and perfect machining, make up the Steelheader. Its simple clicker drag is only meant to help prevent line over run, other than that, the highly polished palming rim will supply all the drag you will ever need. The clicker drag can be engaged and disengaged using a frame side button. Also, there is no need to convert from the left-handed to right-handed retrieve because of its ambidextrous design.

Like all Islanders, the Steelheader is built to take abuse. A thick aluminum frame and spool with a large stainless steel spindle give the Steelheader a very solid reputation. While taking on a 35-pound chinook is not its intended use, you can.

Features of the Islander Steelheader Centerpin Float Reels include:

  • Ultra Smooth Bearings - 2 ABEC 3 shielded stainless steel ball bearings
  • Corrosion Resistance - like all Islanders, the Steelheader is constructed out of anodized aerospace grade aluminum, Delrin and stainless steel
  • Two year manufacturer's warranty
  • Free-Spool Mode- by moving the frame side clicker control button, you can put the IS into free-spool mode, great for letting the river take the line for you.

 Great Center Pin
Pros: Generally, everything you would expect a centr pin to be.
Cons: IMO none
Best Uses: Steelhead, but could be used for all sorts of species.
Comments: After much research and comparison, I decided to go head with IS. The quality and price makes this the best all around reel. Very smooth and excellent start. I purchased a clear/silver because I think it will wear the best. It is a nice fit for my 13' Loomis GLX. Can't go wrong with this baby!

Excellent reel
Pros: Easy Casting, Reliable, Good Construction, Great Startup, Durable
Cons: Ported backplate
Best Uses: Fishing w a float
Comments: This is a really nice reel. Unless you buy a completely handmade centrepin, you will be hard pressed to find a better reel on the market. The startup on this reel is excellent. As far as the last review I think that guy needs to learn how to cast or get some more practice. Every centrepin is going to tangle your line or wrap it around the foot of the reel if you don't know how to cast correctly. Learn how to cast the correct way, straight off the bat, and you will have less problems down the line.
