Description

The Frabill Straight Line Ice Combos create no line twist, feature unrivaled sensitivity, and have the smoothest drag most anglers will ever use. These combos are perfect for "tightlining", a stealthy ice fishing technique kept secret for years by some of the best of the hardwater anglers. The style of these reels allow the line to feed straight off of the spool eliminating line twist, line coiling and the spinning of lure/tackle.

Features of the Frabill Straight Line 101 Ice Combos include:

  • Blank through handle adds sensitivity and increases feel
  • Stainless steel ice guides reduce freeze-up
  • Comfortable cork handle
  • Lightweight composite construction for strength and durability
  • Composite reel won't feel cold in frigid temperatures
  • 1:1 reel ratio with super smooth drag
  • 5" line retrieval per revolution
  • 1 ball bearing reel
  • Balanced spool
  • Line feeds straight off spool, eliminating line coiling and spinning of tackle
  • Ambidextrous over-sized reel handle for ultimate control
  • Frabill's exclusive Sub-Zero lube ensure smooth operation in the coldest temperatures

I recently bought this rod/reel combo to give it a try and compare it to my normal spinning reels I use for panfish through the ice. The rod is pretty good. The reel is fun to use, but takes some getting used to. I wouldn't recommend it for fishing deeper water as it is tedious to peel line off by hand when dropping jigs down a hole. Not too bad if you are fishing less than 10 feet of water, but when fishing 20 FOW, it was too inefficient for me to get the jig down to the bottom quickly like I can when I just open the bail on a spinning reel. Not a bad combo for the price, especially if it is just part of the arsenal of rods/reels you take with you.
Pros: Less line twist
Cons: The reel is slower to use than a spinning reel
Best Uses: fishing shallow water
