 Good Backbone
Pros: Good backbone, Good all round quality for the price
Cons: A little stiff for a ML
Best Uses: Float or Drift Fishing
Comments: The rod is really nice overall. It's definitely a medium stiff, fast action rod. The tip is just slightly lighter than a medium, but not enough to be a medium-light rod, in my opinion. The rod shape under pressure is parabolic, which is good. Lots of backbone when fighting and landing steelhead. If you want a more of a noodle rod action or lighter action, do not get this rod. If you want a good overall casting rod for steelhead or salmon with lots of backbone and slightly sensitive tip, this is the rod.

Daiwa DXS Salmon & Steelhead Casting Rod
Comments: Light weight but strong, lots of backbone. Good sensitivity and a great value.
 Quality Rod
Pros: quality product
Best Uses: light spoons and jigs
Comments: The quality of this rod (DXS862MLFB) is excellent and is ideal for casting light spoons and jigs. I find it difficult to find a short rod with these specs in a two piece. I prefer a shorter rod because I'm usually fishing tight quarters along the river and doing a lot of hiking through the bush. I'm considering buying a second rod as a spare because I'm worried they might stop making them.
